In Memory of John Lennon
This is Strawberry fields in Central Park, New York, and right across the street is where the Great John Lennon was murdered right in front of his residence-The Dakota building- on December 8th 1980.
As far as I’m concerned I nominate ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon the greatest song of the last century. I wonder how you feel about it?

It certainly is a good song. Maybe his best, but I’d have to give “overall best” a lot of thought. I miss him though, that’s for sure.
He was born in 1940, so he would have been 75 and what a coincidence I posted it on his birthday even without knowing. This blows my mind.
His death was a huge loss to the human race.
But he really has lived on. Great memory.
What blows my mind is I posted this post on his birthday unintentionally…WoW!!!
Kismet.
A timeless song of hope and image to match.I love Central Park!
Yes, just an amazing song.
I love that song.😊
One of the best songs of the last century, for sure. Still remember where I was when I heard he’d been shot.
Yes he was amazing!!!
I’m a fan, and Imagine is right up there in the top five for me, along with some Bob Seger and Dylan stuff. Did it seem like a happy place?
The appropriate feeling would be peaceful….and, yes happy I would say, there were people coming and taking pics of the mosaic circle and there was one guy playing the guitar, of course Beatle songs.
interesting…I might think it would be sad
Yes I certainly see that….But the remembrance of the Beatles bring so much enjoyment. The songs they wrote the stand most of them took.
The truth is sometime death emphasizes greatness even more.
I think you are absolutely right about that. Maybe all the good totally outweighs the little bad (death)
Definitely a song for its time which has become timeless. “Imagine” draws heavily on the Eastern mysticism which so influenced all the Beatles, and through them, all of us.
I think the Beatles brought the East to the West in a very profound way. And many of the Sanskrit words have become everyday vocabulary in the States.
I’d have to agree 🙂
One of my favorite. I always seem to get teary eyed. Love all the other comments.
I concur….Thanks for stopping by!!
It is a wonderful song, so simple in sentiment yet so difficult for many in practice. Your post took me back to a photo I shot at Strawberry fields a long time back and great travel memories. Thank you! R.I.P John Lennon and may your songs live on forever!
Like I said that was the best song of the century.
Thanks for your comments.
I agree wholeheartedly! No matter how many times I have listened to his songs, they still touch my heart every single time.
My reader has missed your posts, I just re-subscribed it.
Thats why I used strawberry fields as a happy place, although many may look at it sadly.
His songs have brought happy moments and much comfort to us.
I was just listening to ‘Come together’ Abbey Road is my favorite album…..never gets old!!
Never… 🙂
A person whose music continues to influence so many. Lovely post. Thank you.
What a wonderful band they were, they transcended music and influenced our thinking.
I think you’re right.
Visiting NYC this week, and just paid homage.
Did you enjoy NYC? I hope you did….
We did. NYC has grown up since 9/11. Or maybe it was just the shirt-sleeve weather putting everyone in a good mood?
That’s good to hear…
…forever.
Marvelous photo. Glad you liked my weightless entry.
You are so welcome….
Thanks for your comments.
Just seeing this now and I’d vote the same way as you!
Inspires me to write up my experience on that day……….
Thanks for your comments, I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
Near the top for best, that’s for sure, but I;m always reluctant to choose ‘the best’ of anything. Do you know Strawberry Fields just outside London?
Thanks for you kind comments…
Yes I have heard of Strawberry Fields outside London, but I have never been to it.
I decided to pick Lennon’s ‘Imagine’ because of the profound lyrics. It is the Idea of peace that we lack. It is the image of love and understanding of all that is so appealing to me.
thanks for liking my post.
Beautiful post. A great memoriam.
Thanks for visiting Lita .after along time!!
